Grafill Illustrasjon: Karin Schwandt – Information design
Karin is an information designer. She brings fifteen years of experience in founding and running a Dutch infographic studio and its 12-headed team, serving clients ranging from universities to corporate multinationals.
As an independent creative director, she now works on strategic information design projects with flexible teams. She is a board member of the Association of Dutch Designers (BNO), and provides training to design students, journalists and corporate communication officers.
Kill your darlings
– Two years ago, I was running a successful infographics agency. My team consisted of twelve designers, we worked from a beautiful studio, we had plenty of work, and profits were good. Yet, one morning I called my team to the meeting room and I did the hardest thing I ever did: I told my employees that every single one of them would lose their job. I told them I decided to quit, and I was going to close the agency. In my talk I disclose why I took this decision, what this has to do with my passion for information design, and where it brought me today.
