Velkommen til høstens utstilling i Galleri VIS som er 'Lofoten - A travelogue' av Max Estes.

– My wife and I recently had the opportunity to rent a seaside cabin (rorbu) in Nusfjord, a tiny fishing village in Lofoten, Norway's Arctic archipelago.

Lofoten, with all its largess, offers no shortage of inspiration for the curious traveler. Or, in my case, the curious illustrator. Some of the world's oldest mountains are found here. This ancient landscape is home to fascinating contrasts; towering mountains plunge into deep blue waters, rugged rock-strewn plateaus give way to sporadic clusters of coniferous trees, defiant little red cabins brave ever-present seaside winds. Lofoten is simultaneously inspiring and daunting. This landscape commands attention, focuses the mind.

Lofoten couldn't be further from the rolling Midwest farmland of my youth. Up north our days were spent exploring boulder-infested hillsides and scavenging windswept shores. We watched seals bobbing in the fjord daily, and spotted schools of passing orca when we were especially lucky.

My wife and I only lived in our red cabin by the sea for 9 months, but the experience has lasted far longer.

Sykkelløpet (2017) is his latest picture book.

Utstillingen henger fra 14. september og frem til 5. november.
